Security Information

Web sites that need to know about you use a personal account. Don't be confused by the name - many are free of charge.

For permission to participate, you need a personal account with PBWiki (the people who run this service). We will se that up later.

Task one - Print the security information sheet

The record sheet keeps track of personal information. Put it in your folder, keep it up to date and keep it secret.

It is a Portable Document Format (PDF) file and can be printed from any PC that has the Adobe Reader web browser plugin.

Click this link to open the record sheet. Print it with the browser or plugin print command. We will use your security information throughout this course.

Unwritten records

There are several alternatives to writing down security information. One is a box to "Remember on this computer" that appears when you log on. On a public computer, that gives public access to your personal accounts.

You should never let a public computer remember private information!

Task two - Complete your record

See how many of your favourite web sites you can remember an make a note of their names on the security information sheet.

Try to find them on the web - use a search engine if you need to. Make a note of the website address next to the name.

Now use them as normal. If you are asked for security information, try to remember it.

Write down the user name and the password. If the site does not need them, cross it off your list.

Now, go back to the main course page.
